Lack of transportation during the war was a big disadvantage to the South. It was very difficult for the Confederacy to transport its materials to civilians and soldiers because only 25% of all railroads in the United States passed through the South (right). Giving food, weapons, medical supplies, and other valuable materials was hard for the South to do because of their lack of transportation. Another difficulty the Confederacy faced was the fact that they had to form a government while fighting a war at the same time. Trying to accomplish both of these at the same time proved to be very difficult for the Confederacy.
